PC's & Monitors

How to Screw the Environment using your PC:

"Just leave it on all the time and don't use a screensaver, then landfill it "

And here's why:

It may surprise you to learn that the average PC is responsible for up to 1,000 pounds of Carbon Dioxide annually, produced by coal, gas fired power stations.

15 PC's can produce as much Co2 in a year as a mid-size car. Who would have thought they'd be such a great way to Screw the Environment!

And get this...

At least 30% of the time PC's are on, there's not even anyone sat in front of them. It's a very easy way to waste power.

Controls to automatically put the computer in 'sleep' mode after 3 minutes are often changed to 10 minutes ro more by users. Lets face it, it's annoying when your computer keeps going to sleep.

What to do about it?

So, even though leaving the sleep setting at 3 minutes or allowing your monitor to go into screen saver mode can save you money and prolongue the life of your PC (which aren't cheap), it will also reduce Co2 emissions, therebye reducing your contribution towards Global Warming.

PC Waste

PC's also contain a number of highly polluting metals and chemicals in their circuitry. Elements like lead, mercury and arsenic that can actually be classified as hazardous waste. Burying them in a landfill is a highly pollutiing way to deal with old PC's.

Recycling them, would of course, massively reduce this environemental impact, but finding a PC/Monitor recycling scompany near you can be very time consuming.

You have been warned.
