Lighting
How to Screw the Environment with a simple office lighting technique:
"Use normal high wattage light bulbs (not energy efficient bulbs) everywhere in your office, and don't turn them off when you don't need them "
And here's why:
Electrical power to make your lights work comes from Coal, or Oil fired power stations which produce vast amounts of Co2 (and there's Nuclear power too).
Office lights tend to stay on ALL the time, sometimes even when there's no one there or overnight.
Given how many offices there are, that's a lot of electricity being wasted. Lighting the average size office overnight uses enuogh electricity to make 1,000 cups of coffee!
Things to avoid if you want to Screw the Environment.
- Does the lighting have to be on all day? Switch off if not needed!
- Make sure that the lightbulbs in your office are the most energy efficient with longer life spans and lower maintenance costs.
- Are lamps and fittings kept clean?
- Is the office layout making the most of natural light?
- Switch off lights whenever a room is left unoccupied.
- When leaving for lunch or meetings switch off desk lamps and office lights if possible.
- Use time switches
Energy efficient bulbs might save you money but they reduce Co2 emissions!
Before you rush out to buy them, take into account the fact that using energy efficient bulbs would result in reduced Co2 emissions from power stations and you would actually be helping to prevent global warming!!!

Low energy / energy efficient lightbulbs.
You have been warned.
(New feature so digg away!)
